Asha Pemberton

Dr Asha Pemberton is a Consultant Paediatrician and Adolescent Medicine Specialist in Trinidad and Tobago. In addition to clinical practice, she is an Associate Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Health at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus. Over the past decade, she has worked within the southern Caribbean in the field of Adolescent Medicine and Yong Adult Health and is particularly interested in training and capacity building of the primary care workforce in the field, to improve adolescent friendly health-care delivery. Her specific areas of specialty include training and education, mental health interventions and she recently completed a postgraduate diploma in grief, trauma and loss counselling. Her work bridges the intersections between adolescent well being, trauma and positive youth development interventions.
Dr Pemberton is also a lecturer in the PostGraduate Adolescent Health and Advocacy program of UWI Mona Campus and dedicates time to training across the specialties of allied health professionals.

Asha was the local lead organizer for the 1st Caribbean Congress on Adolescent and Youth Health held in Trinidad in 2019. This was a successful first attempt at developing a network of professionals working with adolescents and youth and engaging young people across the region with a resultant Caribbean Road Map - Championing Our Wealth: Promoting the Health and Well-Being of Adolescents and Youth in the Caribbean, being developed, to guide the work to be addressed in the region.
